Miri Macot--Sea Horse

For Miri to adopt seahorse as its mascot[1] is the original idea of YAB Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, the Chief Minister of Sarawak. It was later on being introduced to the Mirians during the launching of "I Love Miri" Campaign organized by the Miri Municipal Council in 1994 when the Council was headed by the then newly appointed Chairman, Cr. Wee Han Wen.[2] Sea Horse has a unique, beautiful and distinctive figure, Its gentle and charming nature has often been used by the people to denote many good values in life such as caring for each other and possessing an upright character. It also symbolizes harmonious relationship and peacefulness. As it is living in the sea, it signifies Miri's close relationship with the sea, coral reef and a resort paradise.
